August is July's twin with a fuller car park. The thirty-year numbers barely move between the two months, 3 mm against 2, and almost every real difference comes down to people.
If you only want the answer
August matches July for weather and viewing nearly figure for figure; what changes is demand, because the Kenyan school break stacks on top of the European summer. Book it earlier than any other month, and know the quiet corners before you arrive.
A copy of July, with one exception
The card gives August 3 mm of rain, no average rain days, highs of 28.4°C and nights of 18.3°C, all within a whisker of July's line, and the viewing logic is identical: dry country, thinning bush, everything organised around the remaining water. The exception is the crowd. Kenyan schools break for August, which layers domestic family safaris onto the international peak, and the gates, picnic sites and famous waterholes all feel it.
The quiet map
Distance is your friend in a park system this size. Lake Jipe and the Ziwani sector in the far west of Tsavo West rarely see the coast traffic, and the East beyond the Galana barely sees anyone; entering from the coast side through Sala Gate also puts you on the river with far fewer vehicles than the Voi approach.
For self-sufficient travellers, the $35 special campsites are the season's best trick: one group per site, no facilities, and total solitude in the busiest month of the year.
Logistics under load
Book August first of anything you book, and treat six to nine months of lead time for the waterhole rooms as normal rather than cautious. The KWS self-catering houses in Tsavo West go early too.
Arrive at the gate with e-tickets already issued, carry the combination ticket if Amboseli is in the plan, and start drives at opening time, since the middle hours belong to the heat and everyone else's minibuses.
