July is when the rest of the world agrees with the weather. The card shows 2 mm of rain, the coldest nights of the Tsavo year and day after day of clean dry light, and the charter flights into Mombasa deliver an audience to match.
If you only want the answer
July is prime Tsavo with company: superb viewing, the year's crispest mornings, and a European holiday wave that books the waterhole lodges out months ahead. Reserve early or deliberately route yourself away from the Voi circuits.
The coldest dawns on the card
July's normals are 2 mm of rain, daytime highs of 28.2°C, the lowest of the twelve months, and nights of 18.2°C, the annual minimum. In practice that means a fleece for the 06:00 gate opening and shirtsleeves by mid-morning, with the animals active for longer into the day than the hotter months allow.
June already established these conditions; July inherits them unchanged and adds only demand, which is the honest one-line comparison between the two.
Where the traffic goes, and where it does not
The coast add-on safaris concentrate overwhelmingly on the Voi to Aruba circuits in Tsavo East, because that is the shortest loop from the Mombasa road. Step outside that funnel and July thins out fast: the Ngulia escarpment, Lake Jipe in the far south, or the northern area beyond the Galana all stay quiet even now.
High-season lodge pricing runs from July through October, so this is also the month your budget notices first.
The booking arithmetic
For the named waterhole properties, Kilaguni, Voi Safari Lodge, Satao, think in terms of booking by February or March; the rooms that face the water go before the rest of the house. Mid-range beds around Voi Gate hold out longer.
